Day 3: The Best Keep Getting Better:
What separates the good from the great—and the great from the truly exceptional? The best of the best are always looking to get better. They refuse to coast on yesterday’s wins, choosing instead to live with humility, curiosity, and a relentless hunger to grow.
Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” Excellence isn’t about applause—it’s about honoring God with our best.
Tim Grover, legendary coach to Michael Jordan, once shared how their work began. Grover had mailed letters offering his services to several Bulls players, but not to Jordan—he already had a coach. When Jordan overheard teammates dismissing the letters, curiosity stirred in him. That simple choice to seek growth led to a partnership that shaped one of the greatest careers in sports.
This same posture applies in leadership, ministry, and relationships. Hebrews 13:7 calls us to remember our leaders and imitate their faith. Growth requires humility—seeking out mentors, asking questions, and observing how they endure challenges. Proverbs 1:5 says, “Let the wise listen and add to their learning.” And Proverbs 4:13 urges us to “hold on to instruction… for it is your life.” Wise leaders don’t assume they’ve arrived; they remain teachable.
Even Solomon, when God offered him anything, didn’t ask for riches or power. He prayed, “Give your servant a discerning heart” (1 Kings 3:9). His request shows the essence of great leadership: wisdom first, trusting that everything else will follow.
The path to becoming exceptional isn’t built on luck or a single breakthrough. It’s forged through consistency, curiosity, and humility—day after day, decision after decision.
Action Step: Identify one person you can meet with this month who inspires you to grow. Prepare five thoughtful questions, listen more than you speak, and put one insight into practice.
