In this chapter, the writer of Hebrews deepens his discussion of the worship system of the old covenant, showing through numerous examples how the old covenant points forward to the new one. The old covenant, with its rituals and sacrifices, was merely a shadow of the things fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

With the new covenant, there is now the possibility to truly forgive sins and experience final salvation. Jesus Christ is the perfect sacrifice, surpassing all the old sacrifices and finally restoring the relationship between God and humanity.
