SteadfastNäide

What does it mean to be steadfast? In Isaiah 26:3, the Bible says, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” But what does it look like to be a person who is steadfast, or to have a steadfast mind?
Consider the opposite of steadfast: something shaky or uncertain, something that gets tossed around. You can almost picture a boat in the middle of a storm. As the waves crash and the wind blows, the boat is battered by the sea. What could make the boat become steadfast — even in the midst of the storm?
An anchor. The boat needs something sturdy to be tied to, so it isn’t tossed around by the wind and the waves.
Steadfastness doesn’t come from willpower, gritting our teeth, or trying harder. It comes from anchoring ourselves to Jesus. He is the One who keeps us steady. Hebrews 6 uses the same picture, saying that the hope of Jesus is an “anchor for our souls,” firm and secure.
Think about a moment when life felt out of control—maybe an argument, stress at school or work, or news that shook you. That’s what life can feel like without Jesus as our anchor. It’s easy to be tossed around these days, ruled by every thought or emotion, or swayed by the confusing and polarizing opinions of people around us.
But there is a way to live steadfast. When we anchor ourselves to Jesus, our minds and hearts can stay firm even when the world around us feels unstable. Steadfastness in Him brings a peace that isn’t dependent on our circumstances—a peace that holds us steady even when the storm rages.
Over the next four days, we’ll dive deeper to see how we can become steadfast people. For today, take a moment to reflect: Where in my life do I feel tossed around? How can I anchor myself more firmly in Jesus right now?
