More Than Conquerors: 10 Days in Romans 8

DAY 4 OF 10

Putting Sin to Death

Sin doesn’t just quietly disappear when you come to Christ. It still comes knocking, tempting, whispering, pulling at your heart. But Paul gives us incredible hope:

Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:12 NIV).

You don’t owe sin anything. You don’t have to keep paying a debt Jesus already paid.

Paul doesn’t say you need to manage sin or keep it under control. He says put it to death. Kill it. Starve it. Don’t let it have power over you.

But notice how: by the Spirit.

You don’t have to grit your teeth and try harder to resist temptation. The Spirit gives you strength to say no when you feel weak. He empowers you to fight sin in a way you could never do on your own.

The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you — and He is strong enough to help you put sin to death.

Reflection:

  • What sin have you been tolerating or trying to manage on your own?

Try This Today:

  • Confess that sin honestly to God.
  • Ask the Spirit to give you the strength to starve it out of your life and walk in freedom.

About this Plan

More Than Conquerors: 10 Days in Romans 8

Romans 8 has been called the greatest chapter in the Bible. In these 10 days, you’ll walk verse by verse through its powerful truth: no condemnation in Christ, life in the Spirit, adoption as God’s children, hope in suffering, the Spirit’s help in weakness, God’s purpose in all things, and the unbreakable love of Christ. Each day you’ll read Scripture, reflect on its meaning, and take a step to live in the freedom Jesus secured for you.
