30 Scripture Based Prayers for Your MarriageNäide

Father, redeem our pain and restore our joy.
I’ve mentioned earlier in this 30 day series that my first marriage ended. Two very broken people put on the facade of having the best marriage ever all while the inside was crumbling. We were most concerned with looking like we were doing things God’s way when in reality we were absolutely not. Two years into marriage, we were filing for a divorce. I spent the next three years trying to mend my own heart, heal my own hurts, and fill the God shaped hole in my life with all the “good and right things.”
The Lord worked in and through those three very long, very hard years to bring us back to himself and to one another. Joel 2:25 (NIV) talks about the children of Israel who were enduring an invasion of locusts that wiped out an entire crop and the devastation that would come for years afterward. Joel says that the Lord is capable of restoration, “He will restore the years the locusts have eaten” Joel 2:25 (NIV). Joel goes on to say that there will be green pasture for the cattle and early rain for the crops!
Our God is capable of taking utter devastation, sorrow and hopelessness, and bringing forth new life!
We’ve now been remarried for eight years. The Lord in his loving kindness and abundant grace has restored the years of hurt and pain and given us a marriage that we can rest in. A marriage where he is the foundation and where the future no longer looks bleak. A marriage where each of us take turns pointing the other to the Lord and living out his sacrificial love towards one another. It’s not been the easiest eight years and it certainly hasn’t been pain free, but the hopelessness has been replaced with joy and confidence in the Lord who holds us and our marriage in his loving, tender, and kind hands!
Today's Prayer:
Lord, we are believing in your power to heal today. We are believing in your power to restore and bring forth new life. For all the areas in our marriage that need a breath of fresh air, that need to see new life springing forth, we trust you! God, make something new in our marriage!

About this Plan

Bringing your marriage before the Lord is both powerful and redemptive. When two imperfect people stand on Scripture and invite God to strengthen their bond, they build a defense the enemy cannot break. What a gift to know God is for your marriage, and for you. These next 30 days are an invitation to declare his Word over your relationship and trust him with what only he can do: protect, grow, and fortify your marriage from the inside out.
