Lord, help us seek you first in our marriage.

My first marriage ended quickly. 2 years in and I was filing for divorce. No one expected it. Our families were outraged. Our marriage was over. Spoiler alert: we remarried.

See, my first marriage and my second marriage are both to the same man. The difference? The center of our relationship. In our first marriage we did a really good job of looking the part outside our home, but that facade quickly crumbled within the walls of our marriage. We muscled through. We smiled. We never missed a young couple's Bible Study. We checked all the right boxes, but we weren’t seeking after the right things.

My second marriage: built, focused, and solidified by Christ alone. We are still the same broken people, but this time we have committed together to follow the encouragement of Matthew 6:33 (NIV) to “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.” We are seeking Christ first and seeking him most.
