30 Scripture Based Prayers for Your Marriage

DAY 26 OF 30

Father, teach us to put each other first.

A lesson I’m trying to teach my children is “motivation is everything.” Why are you doing the things you are doing? Are you serving for a pat on the back, some extra allowance, or to get a “get out of jail free” card?

We must ask ourselves the same question in our marriages. Our words, our actions, our decisions can’t be for self gain or else our marriages will lose. Paul tried to teach the Philippians the same message when he called them to “do nothing out of selfish ambition but value others above yourselves” in Philippians 2:3 (NIV). It’s not a call to think less of yourself. It’s a call to think of yourself less often.

If we want our marriages to win, we must live this out. It’s not natural and it will take the Lord's help. So today I encourage you to ask the Lord to show you the ways you are seeking self over seeking him. Ask him to change your motivations and to reshape your heart and your desires. Ask him to show you opportunities to better serve your spouse. He is faithful to do it.

Today's Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we want to follow your lead. You came to serve, not to be served. Help us love one another with a pure love and a love that serves freely! Change our motivations and our ambitions.

About this Plan

30 Scripture Based Prayers for Your Marriage

Bringing your marriage before the Lord is both powerful and redemptive. When two imperfect people stand on Scripture and invite God to strengthen their bond, they build a defense the enemy cannot break. What a gift to know God is for your marriage, and for you. These next 30 days are an invitation to declare his Word over your relationship and trust him with what only he can do: protect, grow, and fortify your marriage from the inside out.
