Seeking Counsel from the Right People

Rehoboam was right to seek counsel, but his mistake was his inability to discern and perceive things the way he should have. Rehoboam sought advice from two groups: those who had served his father and his younger friends who had grown up with him. It was unfortunate that Rehoboam followed his friends' advice, leading to rebellion.

Wisdom for today:

Not all advice is equal. To lead wisely, one must seek counsel from those who have experience, Godly wisdom, and a heart for truth. Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, they succeed.” Yet, we must also ask God for discernment because even well-meaning advice can be misguided. Rehoboam's mistake was not in seeking counsel, but in valuing the wrong voices. It is not about seeking advice from his young friends, but in this context, Rehoboam should have listened to the elders, as they had experience and understood the situation. Whether in leadership, career moves, or personal struggles, we must choose advisors carefully.

Father in heaven, please guide me in seeking wisdom from those who walk with you. Please grant me the discernment to recognize the truth and the humility to accept correction. Let my decisions reflect Your heart, not my pride. Amen.
