Day 3: Shared Rules, Shared Peace
Scripture: “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15, NIV)
One of the most significant ways grandparents can support a family is by reinforcing spiritual “house rules” that bring unity and direction. When grandparents align with parents on faith, values, and family expectations, children experience consistency and security.
Joshua’s declaration reminds us that a family united in serving God has a clear foundation. Grandparents help reinforce that foundation by supporting parents’ guidance and modeling obedience and devotion. This reinforcement doesn’t mean grandparents lose their voice or joy in spending time with grandchildren; it means using influence wisely, encouraging children to follow God while honoring the household’s spiritual direction.
When children see multiple generations living in agreement about faith and values, it strengthens their trust in God’s guidance. It also builds an environment where children feel loved, guided, secure, and challenged to grow spiritually.
Daily Challenge:
Talk with your grandchild’s parents about one spiritual or behavioral “house rule” you can intentionally support this week. Then, reinforce that rule with your grandchild and explain why following it honors God and family.
