Nearness

DAY 50 OF 62

“Knowledge is power.” - Francis Bacon, 1597

This quote has stood the test of time, and many today would argue that knowledge gives you power, as it promotes your reputation and influence amongst others.

However, knowledge cannot bear fruit without wisdom. What good would it be to memorize your whole biology textbook if you did not have to take an exam or apply your knowledge in the field?

In our age of AI and advanced digital accessibility to information, it can be very easy to acquire knowledge for the sake of knowing more than others.

Today’s Proverb gives us a sense of urgency towards attaining wisdom. Not just any wisdom, but the eternal truth and promises found in the Bible.

The Bible gives us knowledge of who God is, the history of God’s people, and the accounts of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Even more so, the Bible allows us to know God deeply and personally, and to allow the words breathed out by the Holy Spirit truly transform our lives.

A wise person takes all they have learnt and heard, using it to increase their affection for God and to show Christ-like compassion and love towards others.

James 2:17 (ESV) says, “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

Today, ponder this: Am I reading God’s word purely for knowledge, or am I seeking to know Jesus deeper and allowing Him to transform my heart?
