How do we find stillness amongst the storms of our life? In Psalm 62, David models a soul that is anchored in the character of God. Amid betrayal and instability, he refuses to be shaken. His confidence doesn't rest in circumstances or even righteous revenge—it rests in God’s unwavering nature.
This echoes words from Isaiah: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength” (Isaiah 30:15, ESV). It feels counterintuitive. We are taught to fight, to speak up, to act fast when faced with conflict or challenge. But Scripture reveals that strength in the storms of life is rooted in surrender to the God who governs all.
In Mark 4:39 (ESV), when the disciples are panicking during a storm, Jesus commands: “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceases, and there is great calm. Jesus’ words are not just for weather—they are for our hearts. Jesus offers that same peace today, not by removing the waves, but by standing with us through them.
Psalm 62:8 (ESV) concludes: “Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us”. Resting in God doesn’t mean denial; it means dependence. Trust grows not by pretending everything is fine, but by honestly laying our fears before Him.
Today, ponder this: “For God alone my soul waits.” Pause and breathe these words. Then, in one area that you face, take one step—however small it is—from a place of peace, not panic.
