Journeying to Easter - Part 2Muestra

Who is a God like You?
Recently I bought a car. When younger, I used to rush in headfirst and buy the first ‘shiny thing’ that took my eye, based on impulse and feeling. But now I’m a lot older (and a bit wiser I hope), I worked through a checklist to evaluate the vehicles that made my shortlist. Asking the right questions before making an important decision is essential. In this scripture, we read a crucial ‘right question’ about the most important decision we can make in our lives: ‘Who is a God like you?’ When I look at the words that follow, I can’t help but spot another checklist.
Pardons and forgives – check! Does not stay angry – check! Shows mercy – check! Has compassion – check! Faithful – check! Shows love to us – check!
This passage reveals a God who is radically different to the gods of other religions. Many belief systems portray gods who demand constant appeasement, require rituals of sacrifice, or impose heavy burdens upon their followers to earn favour. The world’s religions may offer paths of endless striving, but the God of Christianity stands apart, offering grace and reconciliation freely. God encourages us to compare our God to other gods and clearly, there is no comparison. Sold!

Acerca de este Plan

“In these next days and weeks leading up to Easter, we’ll explore different scriptures. Each verse a thread in the tapestry of God’s great big redemption story – all culminating in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this Easter season, let’s slow down and create a regular rhythm of remembrance together.” (Lent – Lucy Weil)
