# Is Holiness Even Possible? Once I surrendered my sexual lifestyle to God, the battle had just begun. I wanted to wait until marriage, but I stumbled into sexual sin for months. I tried to resist temptation, but I continued sleeping with a guy who wasn’t good for me. Was it even possible to overcome sin? If you’re struggling to overcome sin, you aren’t alone. Maybe you’re struggling with sexual sin, or maybe you can’t stop an addiction or habit you know isn’t good for you. God wants us to obey him, but how can we overcome sin when we’ve been living a certain way for so long? Jesus died on the cross to forgive your sins, but he also set you free from the power of sin. When you accept Jesus into your heart as your Savior, you’re no longer bound to the enemy’s power of sin over your life. And the same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in you through the Holy Spirit. When we face temptation, God promises to provide a way out. You cannot overcome the power of sin in your own strength, so listen and rely on the Holy Spirit to give you the strength to overcome. Jesus also gave us authority over the enemy and over any strongholds or demons trying to keep us in bondage. Delivering people from unclean spirits was about a third of Jesus’ ministry. If you’re struggling to overcome a stronghold in your life, remember your authority over the enemy. Pray and command the devil to leave, or ask another believer to pray for freedom with you. Jesus gave us the power to overcome sin in our life, but it’s up to us to repent and turn from the things causing us to sin. When I was stumbling in sexual sin, God revealed I hadn’t repented from the men and activities that were tempting me to sin. Instead of fleeing from temptation, I continued hanging out with the guy who wasn’t good for me. We can rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to set us free, but we have to do our part. We have to throw off the sin that is holding us back. No matter what you’re struggling with today, holiness and freedom are possible through the power of Jesus Christ.
