Lele (Manus) language

Lele language is the language spoken in the North East part of Manus Island in the Admiralty Group in New Guinea, part of Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Bible translations

The first part of the Bible in this language was the Gospel of Mark published by the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) in 1921. It was translated by H. Kraft of the Liebenzeller Mission. In 1948 some further Bible selections were published by the Pacific Christian Literature Society, which were translated by missionaries of the Liebenzeller Mission. The New Testament was published as Niu Testament ad ndorlaben adu Jesu Kristo i bolumiadu by the Council for the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) in Australia in 1956. It was translated by R Goebel and other Lutheran missionaries.

The Lele (Manus) New Testament was digitised for the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea with the help of MissionAssist in 2022.
