America's Favorite Memory Verse Do you know what seems to be America's favorite memory verse? "God helps those who help themselves." People say it all the time, usually in the form of friendly advice. What people don't realize is that this verse is not in the Bible. It was given to us by good ole Ben Franklin. But it sounds so good and makes so much sense--common sense-- that many people believe it as truth. In the process we can get in God's way: trying to help God out by doing things that we feel need to be done. We may get results by taking matters into our own hands, but it surely isn't faith. Real faith means trusting God and doing things His way. Yes, I know. God gave us a brain to use to make wise decisions. But taking matters into our own hands is not faith. If you've made a mess of things by buying into Ben Franklin's philosophy more than God's Word, seek the Lord's forgiveness and ask God's help in cleaning up the mess.
