Men of the LightSample

Releasing the Men of the Light
This week, we’ve been discussing Jesus, the Light of the world (John 8:12), whom we celebrate at Christmas, honoring “the true light that gives light to everyone” that was coming into the world (John 1:9).
We’ve examined how Jesus brought light to reveal who God is, expose darkness and sin, illuminate truth and goodness, highlight the way of salvation, and impart to us the illuminating power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus brings light to many different things indeed!
But as we end our week of exploring this topic, there is one more way that Jesus has released light into the world:
You and me.
In an interesting quirk of the biblical testimony, we’ve seen how Jesus proclaims Himself as the Light of the world, but today’s verse points out that He also calls us the “light of the world.”
Well, which is it? Is He the light, or are we the light?
Here’s the preacher's jokey answer:
“Yes!”
Christ, being God in the flesh, came near to us at Christmas. He is the Light of all lights, bringing light to everything He touches.
And we, as those who have Christ living within us, are also light to the world in that we shine His light within us everywhere we go.
As men of the Light who have the light of Christ living inside us, Jesus calls us to “let our light shine” through our good deeds so that others may see what we’re doing and glorify God because of it.
We are the men who, like Jesus, point others to the Father, expose and battle sin while following and sharing what is righteous, proclaim the way of salvation through Jesus, are filled and refilled with the Holy Spirit, and boldly let all of this out through our words and actions so that we don’t contain or hide Christ’s light but proudly let it shine.
Doing so makes us men like Jesus, which is always the Christian man’s goal.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being the Light of the world and shining through us to make us the light of the world. May we never be afraid or ashamed to let that light shine through our lives, bringing glory to You. Amen.
Reflection: Go and let your light shine somewhere today, pointing others towards God with your words or actions!

About this Plan

When Christ arrived at Christmas, light came with Him. In this dark and dreary world, that light came to reveal, expose, proclaim, and illuminate all that God wanted us to see. This week, we will explore this light, all that it does, and how we are to walk through this world as men of that light, with Christ in us to shine out in the darkness. Written by Chris Walker
