Back to the Basics 365Sample

Jesus took discipleship seriously, and we should, too. He showed that it was a serious matter through His Words in Matthew 10:37-38, stating, “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.”
We should value earthly relationships, but not more than our relationship with our God. We should love others, but not let that love hold us back from loving Jesus. Finally, we see in Matthew 10:38 that we are expected to take up our cross and follow Him.
Jesus made full surrender a clear condition of discipleship. He should not have a casual place in our life; He is to be preeminent above every other relationship or commitment.
