Don’t Make It Happen: Understanding the Purpose and Beauty of Every Season

DAY 1 OF 5

In our elementary school lessons, we learned that the Earth’s movement around the sun takes a year and is called revolution. Its main consequence is the change of seasons over 365 days. If the Earth didn’t tilt on its axis, there would be no seasons. And God could have made it that way, don’t you think? But why did He deliberately choose not to place us in a world with only one season? I tend to believe it’s because He wanted to teach us that, just like nature, our lives are made up of a collection of different and complementary phases that must be fully lived.

If there’s one thing we know from the womb, it’s that there is a time for everything — after all, we spent three “seasons in the oven” before we could open our eyes to this world. We weren’t born as trees; we came into the world as seeds. It’s incredible to think that the God of the universe, when He came to earth, also came as an embryo. Like us, Jesus experienced the processes of time.

Yet recognizing the existence of seasons doesn’t necessarily make us patient with their consequences. After all, what is a child’s tantrum if not a declaration of dissatisfaction with waiting? As adults, we may no longer fall to the floor and scream in frustration when we can’t control chronos time, but we can still make hasty decisions rooted in the desire to make things happen when it seems nothing is happening. “Making it happen” can sound like proactivity, prudence, and diligence — but often it disguises our unbelief in God’s sovereignty and omniscience over the chapters of our story.

In the coming days, we’ll dive into the stories of Hannah and Sarah, and through their mistakes and victories we’ll learn together to:

  • Not mask our current season;
  • Not force the passing of the seasons;
  • Discover the purpose and value of each season;
  • Remember that spring always comes!

Are you ready to live each season of your life wisely — without delaying or rushing God’s purposes for you? Then let’s walk together!

Reflection:
Were you an impatient child, or did you accept your parents’ “no’s” calmly?
Do you see yourself as someone who submits to time and its seasons, or do you easily get frustrated when things don’t go as planned?
Based on this text, would you consider yourself someone who tries to “make things happen”?

About this Plan

Don’t Make It Happen: Understanding the Purpose and Beauty of Every Season

Have you ever tried to make a season happen before its time? Just as the Earth tilts to create the seasons, God allows distinct phases in our lives to teach us to trust His perfect timing. Hannah and Sarah both endured long winters, but they discovered that there’s no use in masking pain or rushing the bloom. There is beauty in seasons of waiting, for it’s in those moments that our roots grow deeper in God. The same God who stays silent for a time is the One who brings spring.
