In 1 Thessalonians 2:8, Paul writes, “We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.” That one sentence captures the heart of disciple-making. Paul didn’t see people as projects or converts to collect. He saw them as family.

Like Jesus, Paul understood that truth sticks best when it’s shared through relationship. He didn’t just preach sermons and move on; he lived among the Thessalonians, worked alongside them, and cared for them deeply. He compared his ministry to that of a gentle mother and a devoted father—images of tenderness, patience, and guidance. His disciples didn’t just hear the gospel; they saw it in action through his life.

This is what relational discipleship looks like. It’s not about standing at a distance, delivering lessons, and hoping people grow. It’s about walking beside them through real life—celebrating victories, bearing burdens, and modeling faith in both joy and hardship. Teaching truth matters, but sharing life gives that truth credibility.
