The Pursuit - 12 WeeksSample

John 2 tells the story of Jesus’ first recorded miracle — turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana. It’s a familiar story, but it’s far more than a party trick. It’s a powerful picture of who Jesus is and what He came to do.
He quietly transforms six large stone jars filled with water — the same kind used for ceremonial washing — into gallons of the finest wine anyone had ever tasted. What had been ordinary and empty now overflowed with joy and abundance. This wasn’t just a miracle of compassion; it was a message.
There’s a fascinating parallel here: the first miracle of Moses was turning water into blood — a sign of judgment on Egypt (Exodus 7:20). The first miracle of Jesus was turning water into wine — a sign of joy and celebration. Moses revealed God’s justice; Jesus revealed God’s mercy. Where the law brought condemnation, Jesus brought restoration.
This miracle marks a turning point in redemptive history. Jesus didn’t come to bring more rules or rituals; He came to bring new life. The water jars, once symbols of religion and cleansing, now overflowed with the wine of joy and transformation.
Reflection:
Jesus turned water into wine — replacing judgment with joy. Where in your life do you need Him to bring that kind of transformation today?
