Learning How God SpeaksSample

Learning to hear God is not as impossible as it feels sometimes, but it does require the right heart posture. So often, His voice is not absent; it is simply drowned out by the noise we carry inside. That’s why the first step is learning to be still, both around us and within. The Bible tells us that this is one of the secrets to getting to know the Lord (Psalm 46:10). It’s in that quiet place, when we lay down our distractions and anxieties, that we make space for His whisper. If you desire to hear the Lord in your everyday life, this is the first step to take. Be intentional about making room for Him to speak by removing yourself from distractions for a period of time every day.
After you have quieted down, it's important to also give time to God's Word. This is the place where He speaks the most clearly. As you feed on His Word, your discernment of His voice will strengthen. This is because His Word allows us to cut away any confusion and brings clarity where we need it (Hebrews 4:12).
Another important element that you can do to make space to hear the Lord, is to awaken your expectancy for Him, daily. You see, God is always speaking, even when we cannot hear. Therefore, we should wake up daily with the expectation that God can speak to us that day and that we will be able to hear Him. When we can posture ourselves with faith that God delights in speaking to His children, we become more aware of the different opportunities to hear Him throughout the day.
Ultimately, I would encourage you not to focus so much on your lack of ability to listen and instead, trust more in His faithfulness to speak.
Today's Challenge: Find ten minutes today to sit in stillness before God without your phone or distractions. Begin with the prayer: “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.”
Let's Pray: Father, help me quiet my heart and open my ears to You. Teach me to recognize Your voice through stillness, through Your Word, and through daily expectancy.

About this Plan

Hearing God isn’t about complicated formulas or lofty experiences. It’s about a Father who longs to be close to His children and a Shepherd who knows how to guide His sheep. In this reading plan, you'll learn that it is less about striving and more about learning to recognize the ways He speaks. He isn’t far away. He’s present, faithful, and speaking to us more than we realize.
