A Call to Holiness
And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
1 Peter 1:17-21 ESV
If you are a Christian, you are progressively increasing in confidence in the character of God. Because of this, you can live a life that honors and reveres your Heavenly Father, even when things look bad. The Believer’s life is marked by holy living—the steady, plodding work of glorifying God in our everyday lives. Sober. Faithful. Not seeking glory for ourselves but reflecting God’s glory to the world around us. Even in spiritual exile, as these believers were, even in danger or need, holy living is the standard to which the Father is calling us.
Jesus paid for your redemption with his life—with the sinless, spotless, priceless blood of the Lamb. And this was the plan before the world began, so that you would know, trust in, and live for God. Considering the price that was paid, why would you want to return to the sin from which you have been rescued? If holy living seems too high a calling, remember that you are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who is empowering and sanctifying you to live as a new creation. Today, let that remain at the forefront of your mind as you faithfully follow the Savior in each decision and attitude. Preach it to yourself.
