One House : 1 PeterSample

Shepherding God’s Flock
So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
1 Peter 5:1–4 ESV
This passage outlines the high calling of church pastors and elders, highlighting the importance of humility, selfless service, and leadership aimed at guiding others toward Christ rather than pursuing personal goals. It emphasizes that leaders are to act as faithful stewards of those entrusted to their care, operating under the authority and oversight of Jesus, the ultimate Shepherd. Peter urges elders to act as shepherds and overseers, providing spiritual guidance, correction, and caring for God’s flock in their charge. Rather than using their authority excessively, Elders are to lead by example. Spiritual leaders recognize that the people entrusted to them by God were acquired through significant sacrifice: the cross of Christ. The best leaders will always be servant leaders. It’s important for us as we grow and mature as believers to lead others, thus continuing the chain of discipleship.
