Day 9: Encouragement

While I don't have many memories of my time in the ICU (the intensive care unit at the hospital)—only a few flashbacks here and there —I believe I had a deep desire to live, fueled by the Holy Spirit. This internal drive is what I refer to as “The Fire Inside,” which inspired both my book and this devotional.

When I was in the hospital, it was truly amazing that I was able to speak right after they removed the tube from my throat. Miraculously, when I opened my mouth, I exclaimed, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." It took me a while to regain full consciousness, but I do remember at one point saying, “You have got to know you are going through this, not to this,” meaning that this situation I was facing was not my end.

Whether you are in the midst of a crisis or recovering from one, it can sometimes feel as though something inside of you—be it your body, emotions, or spirit—is fading away. However, find courage as you actively seek God's will, presence, and purpose during these challenging times, trusting that He is renewing you day by day. Focus on what you are gaining rather than what you are losing.

Lastly, if you find yourself in a difficult situation, remember: "You are going through it, not to it." There is a fire inside of you as well! This challenging time is not your final destination!
