Advent Meditation: HopeSample

Day 2: - Write It
After reading the verses yesterday, today, try writing them down in your handwriting. For those who spend a lot of time in the car or at their desk, consider writing the verse on an index card and displaying it in a prominent place that will trigger reading it the rest of this week! If helpful for memorization, some choose to additionally write the first letters of the words as you try to memorize them in a method known as the first letter technique. For a great example of this, check out the organization Dwell Differently. The hope here is that we can use the first letters as a reminder of the verse flow but allow for gradual memorization of the whole passage. Here’s an example of what you’d write out if you were trying to memorize Psalm 23:1-2, which says this:
[1] The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
[2] He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
The first letter technique would look like this, broken up where it makes most sense for you to memorize in bite-sized format:
TLIMS
ISNW
HMMLDIGP
HLMBSW
Remember to light your candle and sing, as you do all this! Jesus is your hope.

About this Plan

This year, we want to offer you a fresh way to walk through Advent—by engaging Scripture together. We’ve created four simple plans, each one centered on a different passage that reflects the four themes of Advent: hope, peace, joy, love. Each plan lasts four days, giving you space to linger slowly with God in His Word. You can move through all four plans over the season, or simply choose the ones that meet you where you are right now. Accompanying each plan is a word-for-word Scripture song written by a Verses artist as a melodic anchor.
