Made New: A 15–Day Devotional on Colossians 3 With Jada Edwards

DAY 12 OF 15

Imperfect people will fail each other. But that doesn’t mean we give up on one another. In today’s devotional, Jada reminds us that in Christ, we can patiently bear with one another’s weaknesses and difficulties.

Reflect

Paul exhorts us to bear with one another despite our imperfections. It can be tempting to walk away when relationships get difficult. But God is calling us to love each other patiently because we also know that we are imperfect. How can a commitment to patience with others promote goodwill and unity in your current relationships? Who in your life needs you to bear with them? What can you do to let them know you won’t quit on them?

We don’t often think of ourselves as that person that others need to put up with, but we all have flaws and sins that can make us difficult to bear with. Despite our sins and stubbornness, Christ deals patiently with us. We are not perfect, and we will fail our loved ones. When has someone loved you patiently through your problematic moments, refusing to walk away from you? What is your relationship with that person like today?

Respond

Your relationships need commitment through conflict if they are going to last more than a single season. As Jada said, relationships require endurance. In Christ, we have the power to make relationships last despite temporary conflict.

Think of someone you’ve had to deal patiently with. Pray, asking God to meet their needs, heal their wounds, and bring joy into their lives. Then reach out in whichever way you feel most comfortable—phone call, text, email, card, etc.—just to make contact and let them know you are still on their team.
