Enduring Well as We Journey With GodSample

The Power for Endurance
“That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being.” Ephesians 3:16 (ESV)
When we think of endurance, we might envision someone who grits their teeth and musters up enough willpower to push through a difficult situation. However, the Bible tells us that God’s kind of endurance does not come from within ourselves but from the Holy Spirit. Just as a car needs fuel or a cyclist needs food for energy, we need the Spirit’s power to endure in faith.
Each time we encounter a difficulty and invite the Holy Spirit to enable us to endure through it, we can experience the fullness of Christ’s love. In Ephesians 3:18 (ESV), Paul prayed that believers would comprehend the “breadth and length and height and depth” of Christ’s love so that they might be filled with all the fullness of God. Endurance, then, is tied to intimacy with Christ.
Abiding in Jesus—through His Word, prayer, worship, and rest—is how we remain connected to the power source. Endurance is not cultivated by simply “plugging in” once a week at church but through a daily relationship with the Lord.
The Spirit empowers us not only to withstand trials but to do so with joy and peace. Endurance without the Spirit’s presence becomes drudgery; endurance with the Spirit becomes a testimony of God’s life-giving power.
Reflection
Are you trying to endure in your own strength, or are you relying on the Spirit’s power? Ask God to strengthen you through His Spirit in your inner being.

About this Plan

We throw around the word "endurance," but what does the Bible say about the role endurance plays in our spiritual lives? Do we simply grit our teeth and steamroll our way through things, or is there more to it than that? Cadence missionary Brian Kleager unpacks what Scripture says about why endurance is a key part of our walk with God.
