When addiction fuels hatred, God fuels love.

Addiction can make you quick to lash out and slow to forgive. It makes you want to keep score for everything. Every old mistake gets stored away like ammunition, ready to be fired in the next argument. Every hurt becomes a tally mark, and the unspoken goal is to even the scoreboard. Even acts of kindness come with strings attached. If someone needs your help, they’re expected to pay you back later. Addiction thrives in this mindset.

God does not. Instead, He offers a better way. He removes the need for a scoreboard by replacing bitterness with compassion and resentment with grace. His love teaches you to forgive without keeping track and give without expecting anything in return. In recovery, love, not hatred, is the fuel that drives your life.

God, please erase the scoreboard in my heart. Please fill me with love so that I overflow. Thank you for always loving me. I want to love like You. Amen.
