Celebrating CharacterSample

When dreams aren't coming true, where do you want your kids to go for comfort and guidance? I want them to come to me or their dad. If my kids feel that my most important goal is pushing them to greatness, then I know they will not come to me when greatness is eluding them. I want my kids to know that they are valued for who they are, not for what they achieve.
Mom, you can't do it all, and your kids can't do it all. Stand up to the "Mom-Push" and start pushing back. A loving relationship with you builds resilience in your kids to deal with the inevitable disappointments that are part of life—everyone's life. Scripture tells us to give thanks in all circumstances, not just when life seems to be going our way.
The practice of ensuring your child knows they are great-enough for you today creates a foundation of security that will anchor them through every future challenge and transition. This doesn't mean lowering expectations or avoiding correction, but rather establishing their worth as separate from their performance.
Make sure your kids know today that you are pleased with them for who they are rather than what they are becoming. Let them know they are great-enough!
Reflection Question: Think of God’s enduring love for you, even through difficult seasons in your faith. What could you do today, following God’s example, to communicate your enduring love for your child?
