30 Days With the PsalmsSample

God’s enemies
“Your hand will find out all Your enemies;
Though they plan evil against You,
though they devise mischief, they will not succeed” (Psalm 21:8-11 ESV).
Not only we humans face hostility. We read here that God has enemies as well. There are people who plan evil against Him. They do not accept God as their Creator and Lord, but devise mischief. That is really dangerous—not for God, but for these people themselves.
The Lord is merciful and slow to anger, but He does not clear the guilty. When people continue to rebel against Him, He will punish them. Today’s psalm uses imagery from the battle field: “You will aim at their faces with Your bows” (Psalm 21:12 ESV). And some verses before: “The LORD will swallow them up in His wrath, and fire will consume them” (Psalm 21:9 ESV).
This is a severe warning for everybody who is at war with God. If you try to rebel against Him, you’ll pay for it. And at the other hand: if you belong to God’s family, this message of His wrath can comfort you. No matter how many enemies rise against the Lord, they will not succeed. Ultimately, He will clear away all evil and the earth will be filled with righteousness.
Are you longing for that day?
