House of David, Season 2: Trusting God in the Middle of the StorySample

When I Am Afraid…
David doesn’t say if I am afraid, he says when. Fear is inevitable. To be human in a broken world is to face moments when knees shake and voices crack. But notice what David does with his fear: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Faith doesn’t erase fear, it redirects it. Fear is energy, and what you do with it matters. Feed it with worry, and it multiplies. Feed it with God’s Word, and it becomes fuel for faith.
David knew fear intimately. Spears hurled by Saul. Armies hunting him. Betrayals from those close. And yet he continually turned fear into an invitation for trust. Fear didn’t disqualify him, it discipled him.
Courage isn’t the absence of trembling; it’s deciding where trembling will take you: into the arms of panic or the arms of God. David chose God. Again and again. And in doing so, fear lost its power to control him.
When you feel fear rising, you have a choice: will this moment be where you spiral into anxiety, or where you anchor into trust? Every time you choose trust, you train your soul to believe God more deeply. And over time, fear becomes not a master, but a messenger—reminding you where your trust belongs.
Reflection Question: What specific fear can you name today, and how can you redirect it into trust in God?
