“Don’t Forget His Benefits”
Life moves fast! Pressures build, distractions multiply, and before we realize it, our hearts drift into forgetfulness, not about mere facts or appointments, but about God’s faithfulness.
That’s why David, in this psalm, speaks directly to his own soul: “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits…” He’s reminding himself, and us, to pause and remember.
Because remembering leads to worship, and worship brings perspective.
Two Core Benefits: Forgiveness and Healing
- “Who forgives all your sins…”
This is the foundation of every spiritual blessing. God doesn’t just forgive “some” or “most,” He forgives all our sins. The guilt that haunts you, the shame you carry, the things you wish you could undo, they’ve been covered by the mercy of God and the blood of Jesus. This forgiveness is total, ongoing, and undeserved. It’s a gift we must not take lightly or ever forget. - “…and heals all your diseases.”
Just as God addresses our spiritual condition, He also desires healing for our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This scriptures doesn’t say “some of your diseases” it says “and heals all your diseases!”
Why should this matter to us today? Because when life gets heavy, it’s easy to focus on what we lack. Psalm 103 calls us to focus on what we have in Christ:
- Total forgiveness.
- Real healing.
- A God who is faithful and kind.
When we remember who He is and what He’s done, praise naturally flows, even in the midst of pain.
Questions for Reflection:
- Have you been forgetting the spiritual and physical “benefits” of knowing God?
- What sins do you need to let go of—because God already has?
- Where are you praying for healing today? Can you trust God with the process?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your endless mercy and compassion. Help me not to forget all You’ve done. Thank You for forgiving every sin, for healing my wounds, and for never giving up on me. Teach my heart to remember—so that praise may overflow from my soul. I trust in You for forgiveness, for healing, and for hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
