Day 1 — Identity: Sons and Daughters of God
Devotional
A friend once asked how I landed a coveted opportunity. I joked, “I’m a child of God,” then paused—realising I haven’t always lived like one. Scripture calls God our Father again and again, yet many of us don’t relate to Him that way in practice.
If my earthly dad were a president, I’d probably live with a different confidence—expecting access, provision, and security. Now lift that thought higher: the Creator of the universe is our Father. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and owns it all. How would sons and daughters of this King think, speak, forgive, create, steward, and stand in hard moments? Identity shapes posture.
Through Jesus we’re adopted—not by merit but by mercy. His blood purchased our place in the family. When we received Him, we were given the right to become children of God (John 1:12). The Spirit Himself bears witness that we are God’s children—and if children, then heirs (Romans 8:14–17). This identity gives us confidence to draw near and live differently: to treat people, creation, responsibilities, gifts, and resources as those entrusted to royal sons and daughters.
Reflection
- Have I been living as a child of God?
- What would change today—one decision, one conversation—if I fully believed it?
Prayer
Precious Jesus, thank you for dying for me and choosing me first. Thank you for adopting me into Your family. Let this truth become my daily reality. Teach me to live with the confidence, humility, and love of a true son/daughter. Shape my attitudes and actions to reflect who my Father is. Amen!
About this Plan

So many of us live far below who God has called us to be. We forget that we are not just saved—we are adopted into His family, sealed with His Spirit, and called heirs of His Kingdom. This 5-day plan, God’s Child, will help you discover what it truly means to be a son or daughter of God. Together, we’ll explore our identity in Christ, the privileges and access we have as His children, the barriers that keep us from living in freedom, and the promises that belong to us as His heirs.
