DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3 – You’re On Two

If you’ve ever heard those words at a pool table, you know what’s up. The three-foul rule is in effect…and you’ve already fouled twice. One more is game over.

I’m so glad our life with Jesus isn’t this way! Not that we should keep fouling with no concern about the consequences. Paul addresses this in Romans 6:1-2. He asks, “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?”

But when Peter asks Jesus if seven is the right number of times we should forgive someone if they’ve sinned against us, Jesus replies, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy-seven times.” (Matthew 18:22)

We have a God of grace, who doesn’t call game over after 3 fouls. He operates with lovingkindness and grace. He tells us in 1 John 1:9 that “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” I’m so glad to know this, especially in light of yesterday’s devotion, and the full knowledge that I’ve allowed myself to say things in the heat of competition that don’t represent Jesus well.

So, take a moment and give thanks to God for forgiving us, over and over. And pray that He will give us the strength to walk in holiness that we might not sin against Him again.

About this Plan

Play Like Him

It’s easy to separate hobbies from faith—Sunday as “God time” and pool as “me time.” But God wants to be part of every area of our lives, including the pool hall, competition, and conversations. Your attitude, sportsmanship, and respect for opponents reflect your character and witness. Colossians 3:17 says, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus...” This reminds us to glorify God in everything. These five devotionals will challenge and encourage you to grow in faith as you learn what it truly means to Play Like Him!
