Gospel-Based Conversations to Have With Your PreteenSample

Day 5: Your Future
When you think about the future, how often do you think about your preteen? Do you wonder how God might orchestrate the rest of their life, what job they may have, who they may marry, where they may live, etc?
The reality of walking with Jesus is that more often than not, His plan is a different version of ours. Sometimes it makes us laugh when we end up at the same place, but we took a different road to get there, or it makes us thankful that we trusted His plans over our own.
For your preteen, in this pivotal point in their lives, where life changes seem to be happening more often than you’d like, reminding them of God’s plan for their future is crucial for building a solid foundation of faith.
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God knows and declares the plans He has for His children, one that gives hope and a future. But, you may be asking, what if my preteen isn’t walking the path I would want for them? Or, what if they are heading in a direction that leads to destruction?
This is where trusting in Jesus is the lifeline you cling to. This is when you memorize and deeply believe the truth found in Proverbs 3:5-6. Trusting in the Lord with all your heart is really difficult at times! But He reminds us that you can trust Him in the now and in the future. And while doing so, you can walk alongside your preteen with the love of Jesus, reminding them that you are with them, but more importantly, God is with them always.
Go Deeper With Your Preteen: What scares you about the future? What excites you? What questions do you have? What are your strengths, and where has God gifted you?
At FamilyLife, we want to be a part of your parenting journey as you have more gospel-based conversations. Want to talk with your kids about the topic of sex, but don’t know where to start? We’ve created this resource page to help get you started.
