Why Not Now?Sample

A New Way to Approach God
For thousands of years, people had a process for dealing with God. Sadly, it was often left to the priests. They’d bring a sacrifice, the priest would kill it at the altar, go into the Holy Place, burn incense, and once a year, the high priest would go into the Holy of Holies.
If he didn’t get it right, they’d tie a rope to his leg. If he messed up, they’d drag him out.
Can you imagine the mess? Three million people in the wilderness—that’s a lot of animal sacrifice.
This process continued for 5,000 years. Then Jesus came, and in three days, He changed it all.
We’re used to tech changing quickly—self-driving cars, robots. But imagine 5,000 years of process overturned in three days.
Even today, Jewish tradition has a system for prayer—set prayers in the morning, midday, afternoon, and before bed. Beautiful prayers. “Blessed are You, O Lord…” “Thank You for returning my soul…”
Jesus’ disciples knew these prayers. They’d grown up reciting them. But then they watched Jesus. He was a rabbi, yes—but something was different.
So they asked, “Lord, teach us to pray.”
They weren’t asking for more repetition—they wanted what He had.
