The Attributes of God

DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3
All-Knowing + All-Powerful

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.
– Psalm 139:1 (NLT)

I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?
- Jeremiah 32:27 (NLT)

What’s a subject you could talk about for hours? Most of us like talking about things we know a lot about. It’s good to learn new things and try to understand the world around us.

All knowledge and everything that’s true comes from God. He doesn’t have to learn anything. He knows everything! Since He created everything, He’s everywhere, and He’s always been here—it makes sense that He would know everything about, well, everything!

Not only does God know everything about how the world works, but He knows everything about us. He knows what foods you like and don’t like. He knows how many hairs are on your head. He knows what you’ll be doing five years from now. He even knows when you’ll die.

We read about a man named David in the Bible. He was a king and a mighty warrior. He was also a musician and a poet. David loved God very much, and he wrote many songs about God. One of these songs says, “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up . . . You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.” (Psalm 139:1-4 NLT)

God knows everything about you. He knows you even better than you know yourself! And He always knows what’s best for you.

If you’ve ever gone on a trip somewhere new, you’ve probably used some kind of GPS. You needed directions because you didn’t know the area. But the GPS had all the information about what turns to make, so you trusted it to guide you to where you needed to go.

Since God knows all about us (and everything else), we can trust Him to guide us in our lives. Now, sometimes a GPS or an app can mess up. It might not have updated information about construction. It might have a technical glitch. But God doesn’t glitch. He always knows what’s right.

At the same time, God is also all-powerful. He doesn’t just know everything; He can do anything. The Bible tells us that God has power over everything. In the New Testament, we read that God even had the power to raise Jesus from the dead. That’s amazing!

But here’s the thing about God’s power: even when He’s doing something amazing, it’s not always obvious. God is at work all around us. He’s working in our lives. He has the power to help us and to provide for us. Remember, He is always with us. He knows what we need and has the power to give us what we need. God is awesome!

If we really believe that God is all-knowing and all-powerful, then we should let Him guide us by reading the Bible, praying, and paying attention to how He is working in our lives.

Reflect: Do I really trust that God knows and wants what is best for me?
