The Waiting RoomSample

#DAY1: Yes, waiting sucks.
Can I just be honest?
Waiting is hard.
Waiting is uncomfortable.
Waiting feels like wasted time.
There are certain places I just don’t go to anymore because I don’t like waiting in lines. Like amusement parks! I love a good roller coaster, but the line? No, thank you. I love funnel cakes. But the line for funnel cakes, no way, Jose. The food might be amazing, the rides might be unforgettable, but the idea of standing still for over an hour just to enjoy something for two minutes? I’ll pass.
Can you relate? This same restlessness shows up in other areas of our lives too.
When writing this devotion…I asked some of my friends and classmates, “What are you waiting on?”
Some said waiting for the promise of love…a husband, a someone to share life with.
Some are waiting on healing…physical, emotional, or relational healing.
Others are waiting for direction…what’s next, Lord? A job? My calling?
Still others are waiting for freedom…waiting for the end of a drawn-out court case, the financial breakthrough.
And yet, into that ache and uncertainty, God speaks.
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.”
— Lamentations 3:25
These words come from a book full of grief. Lamentations was written in the aftermath of Jerusalem’s destruction. The people were surrounded by loss, and yet the writer finds one solid ground to stand on: God is still good. Especially to those who wait for Him.
God sees the waiting room you’re sitting in. He knows what you’ve prayed for, cried for, fasted for. And He isn’t punishing you by making you wait. He’s preparing something. Something good.
But here’s the truth...waiting is not passive. According to this verse, waiting is actively seeking. It’s drawing close, even when you’re tempted to pull away.
No matter how long the line feels, or how tired you become from hoping, remember this: God is still good. And He is worth the wait.
Stay rooted in scripture
Waiting can make our emotions go crazy when we are not rooted in God’s word. Scripture has a way of re-center us.
Try this:
- Read a Psalm each morning or night (start with Psalm 27, 37, or 42).
After all, we know that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4)
PRAYER:
Thank you Father for seeing us. Thank you that you are close and not distant during this time. Thank you for holding our hand while we sit in the waiting room.
Your Word says You are good to those who wait for You.
So today, we take You at Your Word.
Even when I don’t see movement, we will seek You.
Even in the silence, I will trust that You are still speaking.
Even when the wait feels endless, we will believe that You are preparing something I cannot yet understand.
Give us the grace to endure.
Give us faith to believe.
Anchor us in Your goodness when we are tempted to doubt.
And most of all, teach me how to love You simply for who You are.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
