Growing in Faith | Mini Devotions for WomenSample

Running from God
“Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.
Jonah 1:2-3, NIV
Some of God’s assignments are difficult. He might ask you to make friends with a difficult person. You might have to give your hard-earned money to someone in need. You may have to work instead of taking time to relax. God’s way isn’t the easy way. We can be tempted to run in the opposite direction.
Do we ignore God’s Word when it’s hard to obey? Do we avoid the person we’re told to love? Instead of giving, do we grab on to our money and possessions more tightly? Do we lie or make excuses for running from God?
Today, let’s turn our feet around and run toward Him instead. He’ll give us strength and power to obey when we feel too weak (Isaiah 40:29). He’ll stay with us wherever we’re told to go (Joshua 1:9). His love will change our hearts so we love and trust Him through it all.
