NearnessSample

Have you ever got something completely wrong? Maybe a board meeting where you had full confidence in your pitch, only to be rejected. Or going to an argument with all the “facts”, only to realise you’ve got the wrong information.
It’s funny isn’t it, how confident we can be in one moment and then to have that certainty completely shattered by the realisation that you got it wrong.
I was navigating my way through the streets of Lisbon, Portugal and was charging with certainty towards what I thought was my hilltop sunset destination—only to realise I had been walking in the complete opposite direction. Not only did I end up far away from my hotel, I missed out on the beautiful sunset settling over the terracotta rooftops. Misguided trust in ourselves can lead us down the wrong path, and also can lead us away from the beauty that God has for us.
Today’s Proverb is warning us against self-confidence that lacks wisdom. A warning against charging ahead, and forgetting to seek God and His guidance.
Today, ponder this: Where do I need to slow down and seek God’s counsel? Pray for wisdom and insight and thank Jesus for His forgiveness, even when we run ahead.

About this Plan

In a season shaped by bold questions and honest wrestling, Nearness offers a daily pause to remember that God is not distant—even when answers feel elusive. This companion to the Ask Anything sermon series walks through key selections from Psalms and Proverbs, revealing a God who sees, hears, and loves us without needing to erase the hard places. Each devotion gently speaks into the tension, offering wisdom and comfort. God is unfailingly good. His presence is unwavering. We don’t need every answer—we need the One who stays.
