Day 3: The Iron Rod

"You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery." (Psalm 2:9, NIV)

This verse makes us squirm, doesn't it? We prefer our God gentle and manageable. But here's the thing, love without strength isn't love at all, it's just sentiment.

When systems crush the vulnerable, when power corrupts absolutely, when injustice becomes institutionalised, God doesn't just feel sad. God acts. The iron rod represents God's refusal to let evil have the last word.

If God never confronted evil, would that be loving toward victims of abuse? If God never opposed injustice, would that be caring toward the oppressed? Sometimes love looks like a iron rod breaking chains.

TODAY: Ask God if there are areas in your own life where you need his "iron rod" to break patterns of selfishness or destructive behaviour.

GO DEEPER: Consider the relationship between God's love and God's justice. How does understanding God's righteous anger help you appreciate the depth of his love?

PRAYER: God, thank you that your love isn't weak. When I need correction, help me to welcome it. When I see injustice, help me to trust that you won't ignore it forever. Break what needs breaking in me and in this world. Amen.
