Psalm 126: The Stunning Grace of God
“When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” (Psalm 126:1-3 NIV84)
The grace of God is absolutely stunning! His ability to restore, reconcile, resurrect, redeem, renew, reclaim, refresh, and resolve is why many call His grace an amazing grace. His ability to set captives free is the most stunning of all moments. To experience these kinds of moments leaves us in awe and wonderfully stunned by His sovereignty.
…songs of joy.
To the degree we were held captive in our soul is to the degree we are left in awe by the Lord’s power to redeem and release us from such depths. When we attempt to contemplate the enormity of what the Lord did for us, our joy spills over into laughter. Those who knew us in our captivity see the difference and testify to the stunning grace of our God! From the moment of experiencing His stunning grace, we are to sing about how the Lord made a way when we thought there was no other way. Our soul can do nothing less than find a way to tell the story of the great things He has done for us.
The redemptive story of God for the souls of men is the most stunning story that can ever be told. For the people of Israel, Psalm 126 tells the story of a time when they repented of their sins, and then the Lord responded and saved them from their lost condition. Their subsequent freedom and their future were dreams that came true. What was true for them is still true for every soul alive today.
Reflection:
Take a moment and read verses 4, 5, and 6. These are poetic words of gratitude. Do you know of someone today who needs the stunning grace of God? Are they in need of a dream come true for their life? Can you imagine a day when you would hear them speak with gratitude for the moment they encountered God’s grace?
Consider praying Psalm 126, verses one through three, in faith on their behalf?
Pray something like this, “Lord, I pray for _______________. By faith, I look forward to the day when ___________ calls upon you as their Lord and Savior. By faith, I look forward to hearing them speak of the moment they called upon You as their Redeemer. By faith, I look forward to the day their mouth is full of laughter and joy because of the great things You did in their soul and life. Lord, I am willing to do more than pray for them. I ask You to create divine moments for me to share with them the great things You have done for me. In the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray this prayer. Amen.”
