More Than Money: A Devotional for Faith-Driven Impact Investors

DAY 4 OF 5

Surrender Is the Real Investment

What if the greatest result for the Kingdom isn’t based on capital deployed, return on investment, impact made, but on a life surrendered?

We often speak of investing for impact, measuring outcomes, and maximizing reach – all worthwhile goals. But Jesus calls us to something far deeper: to lose our lives for His sake. Not just metaphorically, but in reality. To give up control, to yield every part of ourselves to Him, to follow where He leads.

"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?" – Matthew 16:25-26 NIV

This is the paradox of Christian stewardship: you gain everything by letting go of everything.

You find true life when you stop trying to preserve your version of it. And you build eternal impact when you stop needing earthly recognition.

True surrender is uncomfortable. It interrupts our goals, slows down our plans, and exposes our idols. But it also unleashes real fruitfulness.

God doesn't need your strategy; He wants your submission.

He doesn’t need your investment; He wants your obedience.

He doesn't want your money; He wants you.

This doesn’t mean that impact investments or faith-driven decisions don’t matter. But it does mean that no investment strategy can take the place of daily obedience.

You can fund churches while ignoring your family. You can lift others while avoiding your own repentance. You can do good, and still not be good.

If you really want to invest in the Kingdom, the way to start is with surrender. Only then can you build returns that are eternal. And that’s exactly how Jesus told the rich young ruler to build treasure in heaven – by letting go completely.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, help me to lose my life for Your sake – not just in theory, but in practice. Take my pride, my plans, and my desire to be in control. Replace them with obedience, humility, and joy. I trust that in losing my life, I will find the one You truly desire for me. Amen.
