Are We Loving Well?Sample

Devotional 4: Love Does Not Boast
“…love does not boast…” — 1 Corinthians 13:4 (ESV)
Reflection
Boasting is the sound of insecurity disguised as confidence. It tries to elevate oneself by drawing attention to accomplishments, possessions, or status. But love doesn’t need to shout to prove its worth. True love walks in quiet strength because it knows its value comes from God—not from comparison, applause, or approval.
When we boast, we shift the spotlight away from Christ and onto ourselves. But when love leads, humility flows. It listens more than it speaks and makes space for others to shine. Boasting divides, but humility builds connection.
Scripture References
- Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NIV) – “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength... but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know Me.”
- 1 Corinthians 1:31 (NIV) – “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
- Philippians 2:3 (ESV) – “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”
Practical Application
- Pay attention to how often you bring conversations back to yourself. Practice curiosity by asking others meaningful questions.
- When you succeed, give thanks privately before sharing publicly. Let gratitude lead the narrative, not ego.
- Offer encouragement to someone else without comparing their accomplishments to your own.
Prayer
Jesus, You had every reason to boast, yet You chose humility. Forgive me when I try to gain worth through recognition or praise. Teach me to find my identity in You alone. Let my life quietly reflect Your love and character, and let others see You through me. In Your name, amen.
Call to Action
Choose one moment this week to quietly serve or support someone without needing to be seen or acknowledged. Let it be an offering of love that seeks no reward—just the joy of reflecting Christ
About this Plan

God is love, and we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). Still, life’s hardships and our human flaws often make it hard to love others as God loves us. The aim isn’t perfection but transformation—becoming more like Christ in how we love. As you reflect, ask yourself: Are we loving well? This isn’t about comparing ourselves to others, but about honestly assessing our hearts, identifying where growth is needed, and realigning our love with God’s, so that His love can flow through us more freely.
