Dare to DreamSample

Dare to dream of God's dominion
“I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, […] And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away.” (Daniel 7:13-14 ESV)
The vision Daniel saw was not very comforting at first glance. It was full of frightening beasts, such as a “terrifying, horrible, and exceptionally strong” beast with large iron teeth. No wonder Daniel writes, “my spirit within me was anxious, and the visions of my head alarmed me.” (Daniel 7:15 ESV)
Nevertheless, I want to bring up this vision here. For the terrifying beasts (symbolic of all sorts of destructive forces that roam the earth) do not have the last word. Even the most terrible beast, which seemed invincible, “his dominion shall be taken away, to be consumed and destroyed to the end.” (Daniel 7:26 ESV)
Daniel also saw who would eventually remain in power. “One like a Son of Man,” appointed by God as King over the nations. He will reign forever. And with Him also “the people of the saints of the Most High.” (Daniel 7:27 ESV) This King is Jesus Christ. He will defeat all dark powers and rule righteously - just as we read in Isaiah's prophecies.
The destructive powers that Daniel pictured as beasts are prowling around even now. They are frightening. But remember: Jesus will destroy them. Nothing and no one can stand against His dominion!
What “beasts” do you see prowling around? Does Daniel's vision help you look at them differently?
