GROWTH: TIME TO LISTEN TO YOUR TEACHERS One of the things I've learned the hard way in life is that I need people. It's good to be independent and self-reliant. But you can't invent the wheel in absolutely every aspect of your life. Listening to a teacher gets you farther faster. I could be a much better mandolin player if I had taken some lessons and had a master nudge me and guide me along. I could have been a far better woodworker with a mentor. That's true of your faith life as well. The Bible is a vast and complicated book. You will absorb its marvelous content much better and faster if you choose to learn from the people God sent to help you along in your spiritual growth. He gave some people a special ability to communicate, to make God's truths plain and simple. These people don't just happen into your life; God sends them to you and reminds you to "remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith" (Hebrews 13:7). It's one of the great benefits of organized religion, you know.
