MY MINISTRY: WHERE YOU NEED TO BE The great heroes of the Bible, whose lives are held up for us to imitate, whose writings we study and read, were superheroes of faith. But they could also be super-criminals, super-fools, super-idiots. They sometimes embarrassed themselves and brought shame to the Lord. Samson, Gideon, and Jacob, for instance, were deeply flawed individuals. But get this--God used them anyway! One of the coolest things about the way God works is that he gets his best work done by some of the most unpromising, broken material you can ever imagine. If you think, "I'll never be good enough, so I'll leave it to others," you'll flounder around wondering what you're doing here. I've got news for you, good news from 1 Corinthians: "Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it" (12:27). Hang on, it gets better: "In fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be" (12:18). God not only gave you unique gifts for service. He also placed you on his team to carry out his agenda. That is why you're here on this earth and not in heaven already. And he's got you right where he wants you, in an environment where you can help move his agenda and with relationships God can use.
