God’s Strengthening Word: Mercy & ForgivenessSample

Introduction
Genesis 37:1–11: This chapter turns to the story of Jacob’s son Joseph, which is the focus of the rest of Genesis, apart from chapter 38. Joseph is Jacob’s favorite, and this sets the stage for the conflict between Joseph and his brothers. When Joseph tells his brothers his dreams, they become jealous of him.
Today’s Key Verse: Genesis 37:3a GNT
Jacob loved Joseph more than all his other sons, because he had been born to him when he was old.
Reflect
How did Jacob demonstrate his love for Joseph? How did Joseph’s brothers react to his dreams? How would you describe Joseph? If you were one of Joseph’s brothers, what would be your feelings toward him?
Pray
Loving God, there are times when I may have feelings of envy toward someone. I place my trust in you and ask for your help in those moments, turning to you for forgiveness, Make me grateful for your gifts to me. Order my steps this day, and may all I do and say be pleasing in your sight. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Genesis 37:12–36: Joseph is sold by his brothers and taken to Egypt.
