The Gospel of John

DAY 13 OF 30

“Help Me See What You See”

In John 7, Jesus finds Himself in a place of public tension. The religious leaders seek to kill Him, His own brothers don’t fully believe in Him, and crowds are divided in their opinions. Yet in the midst of it all, Jesus teaches with divine clarity and authority. In John 7:24, He says, “Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”

That command from Jesus is powerful and needed in every generation. We’re so easily swayed by what we see on the surface—status, speech, emotion, popularity, or even religious tradition. But Jesus reminds us that right judgment requires a heart guided by God, not just our eyes and feelings.

I’ve learned this the hard way in my life. When I’ve needed guidance or clarity—especially when there were multiple opinions or noisy voices trying to influence me—I’ve had to pray a simple but powerful prayer: “Holy Spirit, help me see what You see.” I open my Bible and lean in. Because I know that when I rely on my own perception, I often make mistakes. But when I seek the Spirit’s perspective, I begin to discern truth beneath the surface.

Maybe today you’re confused or overwhelmed. You’re trying to make a decision, navigate a relationship, or understand something that just doesn’t make sense. Let me encourage you—God can guide you. The Holy Spirit isn’t silent. He will help you see with spiritual eyes when you ask Him. He can cut through confusion and help you recognize what is truly from God and what is not.

Jesus doesn’t just want you to make good guesses—He wants you to walk with right judgment, led by His Word and Spirit. When you ask Him for clarity, He will lead you in truth.

Respond to God’s Word

  1. Pray: “Holy Spirit, help me see what You see.” Ask for clarity in any confusing area of your life.
  2. Read John 7:24 again slowly. Write it down and carry it with you today.
  3. Before making a decision or forming an opinion, pause. Ask God to show you what’s true beyond appearances.
  4. Share your prayer with a trusted friend. Let them encourage you and pray for you, too.

God sees it all—and He will help you see clearly, too.
