Minor Prophets, Major Truths - Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah & Nahum

DAY 14 OF 31

Introduction and Reflection to Obadiah

Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament, yet its message is powerful and direct. It pronounces God’s judgment against Edom, a nation guilty of pride, violence, and betrayal against their relatives in Judah. When Jerusalem was attacked, Edom stood by and even rejoiced over Judah’s suffering. Obadiah reminds us that God sees all injustice and will hold the proud accountable. Yet, amid this judgment, there is hope—God’s kingdom will be established, and His people will be restored.

This brief book challenges us to consider how we respond to the pain and injustice around us. Are we compassionate and just, or indifferent and prideful? Obadiah calls us to stand with those who suffer and trust in God’s ultimate justice.

To gain a deeper understanding of the book, watch this overview from the Bible Project:

Reflection Questions:

  • How do I respond when I see injustice or suffering in others?
  • Are there ways I have been indifferent or proud when I should show compassion?
  • How can I actively support those who are oppressed or hurting?
  • In what areas do I need to trust God’s timing for justice and restoration
